Book Club to Discuss Story of Escape from Drug Cartel

A family birthday party in Acapulco is crashed by assassins from the local drug cartel, killing all but Lydia and Luca. Their harrowing escape and journey across Mexico to the U.S. is the subject of Jeanine Cummins’s book, American Dirt. Their quest for freedom in the company of migrants depicts the plight of thousands fleeing oppression in Central and South America. Released in January 2020, to critical acclaim and controversy, American Dirt has become a New York Times best seller.

Martha’s Book Club will discuss this novel on Tuesday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m. at the Bay Club. All are welcome to join. If you are unable to attend this meeting, but are interested in future book discussions, you can contact Sarah Schuch at bookclub|||plvoice|||org|||Book Club Info for a list of upcoming books to be discussed.
